Kirkwood Bank & Trust Co. was chartered by the North Dakota Department of Banking & Financial Institutions in February 1975 as the Bank of Kirkwood Plaza. A local Bismarck family owned the majority of the stock.
In 1981, the Bank of Kirkwood Plaza was sold to a Fargo banker and re-named Dakota Bank & Trust Company. The bank was sold to its present stockholders in 1987 and re-named Kirkwood Bank & Trust Co. Since being sold to its present owners and changing the name to Kirkwood Bank & Trust Co., the Bank has grown from nine million dollars in total assets to over two hundred million dollars and has more than tripled our original staff of fourteen employees. The Bank has also expanded to Dickinson, ND.
